Week 6 of my 100 days project Scotland

It’s week 6 of the 100 days project, Scotland. You can find out more about the project and my own project plan here >

I have to admit that as I’m not yet half way through the project and with nearly 60 more pieces left to make that I have felt the burden of that a bit this week. However, I have managed to make a piece every day for the last 42 days with no pieces late. I am reminded of the writer Anne Lamott’s book title ‘Bird by Bird’ which came about as her 10 year old brother was agonising over a book report on birds and their father told him take to take it ‘bird by bird’. 100 pieces sounds like a lot to make but one a day is very manageable. So I am happy to continue! I’ve also been working on more weekly themes. I need 14 altogether and had probably 8 that I was sure on. The weekly themes have definitely made a difference to me to help me structure the project and keep my interest.

For the first time I took a picture of all the pieces I have completed so far together. I am really pleased with how that is coming together. Plus I’ve now decided on the order that they will be put together in the neckpiece so I have started to drill them and add the letters on the back to make up the quote that will be there. I haven’t announced the quote yet, I’ll do that in a coming week!

This week I have chosen the theme of moulds. I use moulds a lot in my teaching as they are one of the big benefits of working with silver clay. As it is a clay it is very easy to press the clay directly into a mould. I teach people how to make their own moulds in my Introduction to Silver Clay class and I always love to see what people choose to mould. I have quite a collection of moulds now so I had to narrow down the ones I wanted to use here.
